The 6th Plenary Session of Sino-German Industrial City Alliance was held and the "Mayor Dialogue" was added, which discussed the theme of "Industrial City: the Road of High-quality Development".
"There used to be a saying that there are Foshan home appliances in houses, Foshan building materials in construction site, and Foshan food and beverage in living places, which appropriately describes the situation of Foshan traditional industries."
The sentence was said by Zhu Wei, Deputy Secretary of CPC Foshan Municipal Committee and Mayor of Foshan yesterday (Oct. 14) at the "Mayor Dialogue" of the 6th Plenary Session of Sino-German Industrial City Alliance, which impressed many German guests.
Zhu Wei said that Foshan would make efforts in four aspects, building new advantages of system and mechanism, new momentum of green development, new system of modern industry and new pattern of overall opening up, and exploring the road of high-quality development of an industrial city.
State Foshan's vision for high-quality development
Zhu Wei introduced that as Foshan is an important manufacturing base in China, not only because of the large number and scale of manufacturing industry, but also due to its characteristics: complete categories and wide coverage; robots, new-energy vehicles, electronic information, bio-medicine and other emerging industrial systems that are relatively sound; complete, collaborative and gathering industrial supporting facilities; well developed private enterprises and strong roots, taking up more than 90% of Foshan's market players; prominent brand economy and world-renowned reputation of Foshan manufacturing.
We should see both achievements and shortcomings. Zhu Wei said that benchmarking the highest level in the world, Foshan's industrial level was generally in the low and middle end. There is still a long way to move towards the high and middle end. Since Foshan's industrial innovation ability is relatively weak, there is still gap in terms of the competitiveness of Foshan products.
Alliance member cities explore opportunities for cooperation
At the meeting, representatives of 23 Chinese cities and 18 German cities of Sino-German Industrial City Alliance came to the scene. Some member city leaders also promoted their cities and explored cooperation opportunities among member cities.
Dr. Lothar de Maizière, former chancellor of the German Democratic Republic, said that Foshan was a beautiful city with vitality, internationalization, livability and good manufacturing industry. Over the years, he insisted on promoting the development and expansion of Sino-German Industrial City Alliance. "The Sino-German Industrial City Alliance has a very good mechanism, and is now moving forward."
Cui Jian, Deputy Mayor of Maoming City, believed that the 41 cities of Sino-German Industrial City Alliance forming a big family was a reflection of Foshan's beauty and responsibility. He said that Maoming, as a traditional manufacturing city, was also seeking high-quality development, and suggested that Foshan could take more industrial cities to develop better.
Build a Sino-German local cooperation model platform
The Sino-German Industrial City Alliance has been formally established for more than two years. Till October this year, the alliance has 41 official member cities and observer cities, 23 in China and 18 in Germany. As an international cooperation platform jointly initiated and established by the important industrial cities of China and Germany, it has received high praise from the member cities of the alliance and successfully helped some enterprises go out, carrying out mergers and acquisitions.
Liu Yi, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shunde District Committee, Director of the Sino-German Industrial Service Zone Management Committee and Secretary-general of Sino-German Industrial City Alliance, said that the next step of the Alliance Secretariat would rely closely on the strength and wisdom of member cities and all sectors of the society to further sum up experience, dig deep and work on quality, and optimize services, realizing mutual benefit and win-win results among alliance member cities.
