Foshan will complete 15 km greenway from Foshan New City to Beijiao by the end of this year

　　The reporter learned from the Foshan Water Conservancy Bureau that the general plan for the greenway construction in Foshan will be released this year. At present, the preliminary idea is to divide the greenway into "three rings and six belts", and to promote the construction in three stages.

　　From May 23 to 24, Guangdong Provincial Water Resources Department and the Head of River Office held an on-site exchange meeting on the overall planning and pilot construction of Guangdong greenway in Foshan. They inspected one of the provincial pilot projects, Foshan Dongping River. The landscape belt is 30 kilometers long, of which the first 5 kilometers have been completed.

　　Li Yongsheng, Director of Foshan Water Conservancy Bureau and Standing Deputy Director of City River Chef Office, said that Foshan would seize the construction opportunity of Dongping River as provincial pilot zone, carry out "one city-level pilot zone in each district" and "one district-level pilot in each town (street)” to build 1,000 kilometers of greenway. In the preliminary conception, the route selection is defined as "three rings and six belts". Combining with the linear green infrastructures such as waterway, greenway, ancient post road and ventilation corridor, it integrates the diverse elements of natural ecology, history and culture, rural revitalization, characteristic towns and so on to construct the cultural greenway in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

　　It is reported that the construction of 1,000-km greenway will be carried out in three stages according to the idea of "quick start in one year, shape up in five years, full coverage in ten years". Among them, during the start-up and deployment phase (2019-2020), complete the construction task of 15 kilometers of provincial demonstration section of Tanzhou Waterway, from Foshan New City to Beijiao by the end of this year. By the end of 2020, all districts will complete the construction of city-level greenway demonstration section, including the Foshan levee upgrading project in Chancheng District, the landscape upgrading project of Foshan Waterway in Nanhai Guicheng, the comprehensive renovation project of Guipan seawater system in Shunde District (Desheng River, Guipan Waterfront Landscape Corridor), the comprehensive renovation project of Xiuli River in Gaoming District, the Yundonghai National Wetland Park in Sanshui District, etc. In the recent construction stage (2021-2025), a total of 1,000 kilometres of the city's greenway project will be completed, and each district will have completed no less than 200 kilometers of greenway. With high starting point design and high-standard construction, Foshan will promote the greenway construction of key sections around Sanlong Bay. In the long-term improvement stage (2026-2035), Foshan will comprehensively spread out and continuously promote the improvement of the water environment of riverbank network in the whole city, promote the full coverage of greenway, and realize a living picture of Lingnan waterside city with "clear river, green landscape, abundant fish and aquatic plants, and lots of egrets".
