Sanlongwan Connects with the World by Hosting High-standard Competitions

On April 9th, the 2020 VEX World Championships Playoff (China Finals) was kicked off at the Tanzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center

　　This is an international place in Guangzhou-Foshan Area.

　　This is Foshan Sanlongwan High-end Innovation Cluster (hereinafter referred to as“Sanlongwan”), a place with great potential in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

　　With the approval of Overall Development Plan, Sanlongwan now stands at a new historical height.

　　According to the Overall Development Plan for the Development of Foshan Sanlongwan High-end Innovation Cluster (2020-2035) (hereinafter referred to as “the Plan”), Sanlongwan carries strategic importance in the following aspects: 1) a key platform to contribute to the building of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (hereinafter referred to as “GBA”); 2) an important supporting area to build Guangzhou and Foshan as strong poles, promote regional integration in the two cities; 3) a key innovation platform included in GBA’s effort to become an international science and technology innovation center.

　　Recently, the 2020 VEX World Championships Playoff (China Finals) kicked off in Sanlongwan. In Sanlongwan, a land full of innovation and vitality, large-scale and high-standard international competitions and activities are staged one after another, and international elements are never absent.

　　To showcase Sanlongwan to the world and gather high-end innovative resources, Sanlongwan continues to activate new energy for development.

　　A global view through various competitions

　　On April 9th, the 2020VEX World Championships China (Finals Play-offs) was kicked off at the Tanzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center in Foshan. This year, the "60066S Team" composed of four girls from Guangdong Experimental Middle School delivered eye-catching performances. With the tacit cooperation among the team leader, commander, operator, and programmer, the robot smoothly completes actions such as grabbing and placing the ball, and uses the ball to score. This three-day robot competition attracted about 300 teams from all over the country.

　　Known as a robotic competition with the most complete system and the largest number of participants, VEX Robotics Competition gathers up millions of young people from many countries every year. It was introduced and promoted in China in 2007.

　　At present, industrial giants in robotics intends to work with Robotation Academy Foshan to build a STEAM research base, which is a platform for robot education, training, and application, so as to promote the integrated development of artificial intelligence education and intelligent manufacturing industry in Foshan.; the Asian Robot Alliance plans to further cooperate with Sanlongwan and hold the 2020 VEX World Championships Asia-Pacific Division again at the Tanzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center in May. Teams from all parts of the Asia-Pacific region will gather in Sanlongwan, and the winning team will compete against teams from the United States Division for the finals.

　　Foshan's trump card

　　Connecting the world and going global is the original aspiration of Sanlongwan as a major development platform.

　　Located in the bordering area of  Guangzhou and Foshan, Sanlongwan covers areas across three districts and five towns in Foshan. Sino-German Industrial Service Zone and the Demonstration Zone for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation in High-end Service are included in Sanlongwan. Openness is one of the distinctive features and advantages.

　　Sanlongwan is an important trump card for Foshan. Sanlongwan is increasing its international influence through various national and global activities.

　　From cultural and sports competitions, international exchanges to international industrial projects, Sanlongwan is developing a global view, transforming from an “unknown” to a major provincial platform. On the other hand, it has raised the capacity level of Sanlongwan and will form a positive cycle, as the KUKA project, Tanzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center, Huya Global R&D Headquarters and more projects have landed here.

　　Stage a show of technological progress

　　The technological ambition of Sanlongwan has been integrated into its development plan from long before.

　　As pointed out by “the Plan”, Sanlongwan is striving to become an innovation highland for global advanced manufacturing, a model for open cooperation on the west bank of the Pearl River, a leading area for the integrated development in Guangzhou and Foshan, a high-quality Lingnan Watertown.

　　The five towns (streets) covered by Sanlongwan are all among the top 100 towns in terms of comprehensive strength across China. They are home to industrial clusters such as robotics, smart home appliances, mechanical equipment manufacturing and biomedicine, a number of scientific research and innovation institutions, such as Jihua Laboratory, two headquarters of Fortune 500 Companies and a large number of manufacturing powerhouses with strong international influence.

　　More importantly, Sanlongwan is Foshan’s window to Europe with Sino-German Industrial Service Zone serving as one of Guangdong’s platform for opening up. A number of major industrial and technological projects in line with Germany's Industry 4.0 have landed one after another in Sanlongwan. For Sanlongwan, it is on its way to identify path to conduct cooperation with Germany.

　　In recent years, Sanlongwan has stepped onto the international stage by hosting numerous high-standard events and activities. Professor Bao Mingxiao, Director of China Sports Economic Research Center, said that hosting large-scale events in a city can not only expand the space for urban development and functions, upgrade infrastructure, the overall urban governance level, but also foster a city’s style and a strong brand. "Practice has proved that experience collected from hosting large-scale competitions helps to boost comprehensive management level and the ability to coordinate operations among various departments." Bao said. He holds a belief that hosting large-scale competitions is booster for shared development and green development. The pattern of “building a stage for culture and playing a show of technological growth” is essential to Sanlongwan’s sustainable development.
