On Marth 28th, Guangdong Province held a commencement ceremony for major projects in the first quarter of 2021. Foshan, as a parallel session to the ceremony, also announced its major projects in the first half of 2021 - 302 major projects with a total investment of nearly 316 billion yuan, started with an input of 54.9 billion yuan this year.

Among all projects announced this year, industrial projects account for the largest proportion. Known as a major manufacturing city, Foshan will focus on industrial upgrading and emerging industries through 194 industrial projects worth 33.9 billion yuan.

At the same time, Foshan also seeks to shore up its weaknesses in construction through 48 infrastructure projects, and improve people’s sense of happiness in life through 60 social benefiting projects.

Along with the ongoing projects, Foshan will focus on 380 projects in total, with a total investment exceeding a record 1 trillion yuan. Now take a look at what changes are about to take place in Foshan!

Upgraded infrastructure layouts: a transition from “manufacturing” to "intelligent manufacturing"

Infrastructure is now known as a new growth driver and a new chance for transforming economic patterns. As scheduled, Foshan will push forward its ongoing projects, including "International Data Transmission Hub" project (Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Node) by AVIC Cloud Telecom, Foshan Wusha (Kuanyuan) Big Data Center, Jihua Laboratory, and Kepler Big Data Center. Plus, efforts are being made to prep for the Foshan Lanwan Cloud Computing project.

A stronger transport system: 3 metro lines and the second airport

This year, Foshan people have paid extra attention to the city’s transports construction. Key projects in Foshan include intercity railways (“Foshan West Railway Station to Guangzhou North Railway Station” on Guangzhou-Foshan Ring Line), subways (Phase 1 of Line 4, Line 11, Phase II of Line 2), roads and bridges (Guangzhou-Foshan Tongxin Bridge Project and the Chenxiang Bridge). As such, Foshan is on a fast track to become a regional transportation hub.

Better resources in education and medical care

In order to ensure educational quality in Foshan, especially high-level education, a wave of construction has begun with projects like Foshan campus of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (the first phase), Foshan Graduate School of Northeastern University, Shunde campus of Southern Medical University, and conduct preparation duties for Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Foshan).

Besides, Foshan is putting intensive effort to improve its medical service, ranging from the expansion and reconstruction of Foshan City Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Foshan Heyou International Hospital, to the building of new branch of Foshan Second People's Hospital, Foshan Sanshui District Xincheng Hospital. Overall cultural strength was also put high on agenda, as evidenced by projects like Foshan Cantonese Theater, Foshan Youwei Pavilion, Foshan Moshang Blossom in all Seasons Garden ("佛山陌上花开四季花园") and a few more.

"2+2+4" advanced manufacturing cluster: a strong grasp of leading projects

Among the industrial projects, Foshan will continue to focus on high-end equipment manufacturing projects, modern service industry projects, and traditional industry upgrading projects this year. These projects are enabling Foshan to upgrade its industrial layout and create more opportunities for emerging industries, thanks to projects like Haitian’s Industrial Zone and Headquarter Project in Nanhai (Phase I), Investment and Construction Project for Tower Crane by XCMG Xuzhou Construction Machinery Guangdong, Fengguang (Sanshui) Intelligent Manufacturing Industry and so on.

Modern service industry engineering is a key part of Foshan’s key construction projects. This year, Foshan will focus on pacing up construction for Longjiang “Smart Home” Town and Nanhai Pingqian International Smart Industrial Park. For preparatory projects, Foshan will work for more progress in Tencent Industrial Internet Base in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the IKEA Supply Chain Trade Center in South China.

With unmatchable government determination and strong public support, we look to see Foshan take on a brand new look in the near future.
