Recently, 3 Foshan scenic areas, Foshan Xiqiao Mountain Scenic Area, Foshan Binhe Wetland Research Center and Guangdong Yingxiang Ecological Park joined the list of 2020 Guangdong Nature Education Bases released by Guangdong Forestry Bureau.
At present, the total amount of Guangdong Nature Education Bases reached 50. Since the construction of nature education base was comprehensively launched in 2018, a variety of nearly 20,000 nature education activities have been held in over 300 sites in Guangdong, such as forest parks, wetland parks and botanical gardens, with 4.2 million attendees, promoting teenage ecological civilization education in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao effectively.
Rich in natural ecological resources, Xiqiao Mountain, with a forest coverage rate of 86.7%., has more than 3,000 kinds of plants, about 380 kinds of main arbor and shrub plants, more than 2,000 kinds of Chinese herbs, and lots of animals in the mountain.
Foshan Binhe Wetland Research Center develops distinctive nature experience curriculum products based on the park, and carries out public nature education activities by making full use of natural ecological resources of Binhe Landscape Belt and taking every creature in wetland as teaching materials.
Yingxiang Ecological Park is building an intelligent thermostatic greenhouse, which will open on China’s National Day for flowers appreciation, importing a variety of high-end ornamental flowers from Europe, Japan and other countries.
It is worth noting that Foshan Botanical Garden has joined the first batch of Guangdong Nature Education Bases in June last year. It has carried out research and import of theaceae plants for years, introducing over 1,000 kinds of theaceae plants from elsewhere in China and abroad, and building Guangdong Theaceae Germplasm Resource Bank where 80% of worldwide camellias can be found.
