On March 20, the donation ceremony of medical supplies from Foshan to support sister cities in Germany was held at the Management Committee of Foshan Sino-German Industrial Service Zone (Sanlongwan Innovation Cluster) (hereafter referred as Sanlongwan).
The number of COVID-19 cases in Germany and other European countries has increased rapidly, and the shortage of related medical supplies has been reported. As an important local platform for Sino-German cooperation, the Management Committee of Foshan Sino-German Industrial Service Zone (Sanlongwan) imminently donated 100,000 masks, 100 thermometers and other medical supplies to sister cities in Germany with severe epidemics under the guidance and coordination of the Foshan Municipal Government and Office of Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia Epidemic Prevention and Control Headquarters of Foshan City.
On March 20, boxes of medical supplies were shipped from Foshan to aid Germany. Supportive messages in Chinese and German were posed on the package of the boxes. In this regard, Mr. Martin Fleischer, Consul General of Germany in Guangzhou, specially contacted the Management Committee to express gratitude to Foshan for the timely help during the difficult epidemic prevention period in Germany.
In February, during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pneumonia epidemic in China, representatives of sister cities in Germany such as Aachen and Ingolstadt supported Foshan people by cheering letters and videos, and expressed willingness to provide relevant help.
Since March, Germany has also suffered a great challenge of the COVID-19 epidemic. As of March 20, the number of cases in Germany has topped 16,272. North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria where the Sanlongwan Management Committee has the largest distribution of sister cities have become severely affected areas with rapidly increasing numbers of confirmed cases.
