Foshan ranks 11th and 12th in two recently released national lists

Foshan ranks 11th and 12th in the two recently released national lists--City Blue Paper: China Urban Development Report No.12 and the China Urban Social Development Index and Top 100 list (2019) under the New Era.

  On November 29, City Blue Paper: China Urban Development Report No.12 has carried out a comprehensive assessment over healthy development condition of 288 prefecture-level cities. Among the 288 cities, Foshan ranks 11th.

  How to evaluate whether a city is healthy? Wu Zhanyun, deputy editor-in-chief of the Blue Paper and associate researcher of the Institute for Urban and Environmental Studies Chinese Academy of Social Sciences said that the research group put forward a relatively scientific "diagnostic method": according to the coordination development degree of the five evaluation indicators of healthy economy, healthy culture, healthy society, healthy environment and health management, if the five evaluation indicators of a city are higher than the median of all cities, then it’s thought that the city is relatively healthy. According to this standard, the study pointed out that a total of 35 cities in 2018 belong to "healthy cities", accounting for 12% of the country's total amount.

  In the list of China Urban Social Development Index and Top 100 list (2019) under the New Era that is released recently, Foshan ranks 12th in the comprehensive ranking of of China’s urban social development index, of which two indexes including "Economic Development and National Income" and "Population Development and Social Potential" indexes enter the top ten.

  Why can Foshan rank 12th in China’s urban social development index? The breakdown of indicators in the report gives the answer. Foshan ranks 10th in the ranking of "Economic Development and National income" and it is the only non-provincial capital prefecture-level city in the top 10 cities. The report points out that Foshan is an important manufacturing center and trade center in the Pearl River Delta Area, and the private economy is an important force of Foshan economy, and it is the main feature and advantage of Foshan.

  In addition, Foshan ranks 4th in the index of "Population Development and Social Potential". In the report, Foshan has formed a manufacturing-based industrial pattern and attracted a large number of non-native population, which contributes to the economic advantages of Foshan’s population dividend under the social background of ageing.
