Lecong Team won the title of Foshan dragon boat race

　　On October 20th, a dragon boat race was organized on Dongping River in Shunde District. A total of 32 teams took part in the race and the team representing Lecong Town won the first prize in the 200-meter and 500-meter straight race.

　　Lasting for two days, Foshan’s first Town (Street) Dragon Boat Race attracted people from 32 towns or streets in the five districts to participate. After pre-match and rematch, a total of 18 teams entered the semi-final and final events on October 20th.

　　In the final of 200-m straight race, Shunde Lecong Team and Nanhai Jiujiang Team kept pace with each other and reached the finishing line almost at the same time. According to referee, Shunde Lecong Team became the first with a narrow advantage of 0.022 second. Moreover, Shunde Xingtan Team won the third place.

　　In the later 500-meter straight race final, Shunde Lecong Team and Nanhai Jiujiang Team competed fiercely for the title again. In the last 100 meters, Shunde Lecong Team won the championship in a sprint using1 minute 31 seconds 716 followed by Nanhai Jiujiang Team.. On group list, Shunde Lecong, Nanhai Jiujiang and Shunde Longjiang ranked the top three respectively.

　　"Although the dragon boat race is the first of its kind, the race is high-quality." Feng Guojin, coach of Shunde Lecong Team said that Lecong Team had been preparing for this event since June. “I am very grateful to our old friend, Nanhai Jiujiang team. I think both teams have given their best performance.” He said.

　　Deng Canrong, deputy secretary general of Foshan Municipal Government, said that as the hometown of dragon boats, Foshan held more than 500 dragon boat races every year. Holding the town (street) dragon boat race not only meets the expectation of Foshan people, but also satisfies the need of Foshan people to create a series of events relating to dragon boat . it is not only a competition platform for various teams, but also a window for anyone who wants to know more about the town cultures.
